Increasing the Capacity of Community-based Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism - Pakpak Ecological Landscape
Partner: Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) for the Resilient Equatorial Forest Foundation (TaHuKah)
The Equatorial Forest Tangguh Foundation, supported by funding from the Sumatran Orangutan Society, is implementing programs to maintain the balance and sustainability of ecosystems based on landscape management, biodiversity conservation, and strengthening sustainable livelihoods; in an effort to connect orangutan habitat blocks as protected animals. Currently, Social Forestry status has been submitted to the Village Forest scheme in order to obtain forest management approval. It is hoped that the development of natural and cultural potential will become a tourist attraction by developing sustainable tourism. This aims to promote the village, improve the economy and community welfare.
The Equatorial Forest Tangguh Foundation in collaboration with the DESMA Center is implementing the development of community-based ecotourism and sustainable tourism in the Pakpak Ecological Landscape, North Sumatra. The main objective of this project is to increase the understanding and ability of the Village Government and Village communities to manage and develop tourism and ecotourism in accordance with local resources in a sustainable manner.
In this project, the DESMA Center carries out identification, planning and preparation of priorities and strategies for sustainable ecotourism development; as well as providing assistance to increase the capacity of relevant stakeholders.
