As part of the efforts to accelerate the recovery of the tourism sector in North Sumatra Province as well as to fulfill efforts to improve the economy and tourism in a sustainable, quality and inclusive manner; DESMA Center held a series of meetings with Bank SUMUT for the design and implementation of sustainability programs in North Sumatra. the design and implementation of sustainability programs is one of the 4 (four) main work pillars of DESMA Center.  

The meeting was held at DESMA Center Field Office Medan on 17 October 2022. The meeting began with a presentation of each institution's vision and mission, followed by a discussion on sustainability program implementation. PT Bank SUMUT as a Regional-Owned Enterprise, has a vision of “Becoming a Reliable Bank to Assist and Encourage Regional Economic Growth and Development in All Fields and as One of the Sources of Regional Revenue in the Framework of Improving People's Living Standards.” As an implementation of this vision, PT Bank SUMUT will continue to take part in encouraging sustainable economic growth in North Sumatra.    

The meeting continued with an invitation from DESMA Center to PT Bank SUMUT to see one of DESMA Center's assisted locus in Batu Katak Ecotourism Area, Langkat Regency, Gunung Leuser National Park on October 18, 2022. As well as attending a monitoring and evaluation meeting from the German KfW team, the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry which took place at the same time. 

The meeting then continued at the DESMA Center Head Office Jakarta on October 31, 2022. The meeting consisted of shared learning and comprehensive discussion on the follow-up of the results of the discussion in Medan and the visitation at DESMA Center's tourism assisted locus. From the meeting, it is expected that recommendations will emerge regarding the role of PT Bank SUMUT in encouraging sustainable economic growth, especially tourism in North Sumatra.
