Children are a valuable asset for the survival of the nation. Protection of children has been regulated in Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection. ProgramTVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba implemented by the DESMA Center is closely related to children because the assisted partners and beneficiaries at the tourism vocational school in Sumba are teachers and students. Recognizing the importance of protecting children and adult groups in the context of assistance and all program implementation, the DESMA Center carries out Socialization of Child Protection Policy &Safeguarding at the Tourism Vocational School, Sumba on Friday, July 9, 2023 at the Sinar Tambolaka Hotel, Southwest Sumba.

This activity aims to introduce and educate all parties involved in the school environment about this policy. It is hoped that schools can create an environment that is safe, inclusive, and supports the holistic development of children and adults in every activity. DESMA Center which already has Child Protection Policy guidelines &Safeguarding in the programs it implements.

Also present were 7 (seven) representative participants from 5 (five) DESMA Center assisted schools, 2 (two) participants from MISEREOR/KZE, and 4 (four) DESMA Center Field Office Sumba staff.

The activity began with a presentation on the evaluation of the implementation of the TVET program for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba by Mr. Boyke Hutapea, Field Office & Program Manager Sumba - DESMA Center.

The next session was filled by Mrs. Pupu Purwaningsih, Local Coordinator of the MISEREOR/KZE Program. The material presented is related to the socialization of the Child Protection and Self Protection Policy (Child Protection Policy & Safeguarding – CPP & Safeguarding) in the school environment. MISEREOR/KZE is committed to protecting children and vulnerable groups of adults from all forms of threats and violence. To support this commitment, partners are encouraged to own and apply minimum standard rules for the protection of children and the safety of adults who are vulnerable to threats and violence.

Socialization of Child Protection Policy &Safeguarding in the Tourism Vocational School Environment, Sumba is a part ofProgram TVET for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba implemented by the DESMA Center.

The TVET Program for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba is supported by MISEREOR/KZE; implemented by the DESMA Center. Strengthening Tourism HR Capacity aims to realize "The tourism vocational school education program in Sumba so that it meets the needs and requirements of the tourism industry, thereby offering better job opportunities for young people and supporting sustainable tourism in Sumba."

This program includes strengthening (1) the management capacity of tourism vocational schools that are in line with the independent curriculum and the concept of sustainable tourism; (2) Teacher capacity in pedagogical knowledge, about sustainable teaching and tourism (3) Tourism Industry Vocational Vocational School Partnership; and (4) the entrepreneurial capacity of students in creating sustainable tourism businesses.

The direct beneficiaries of this program are (1) SMK Pancasila – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (2) State Vocational School 2 Tambolaka City, Southwest Sumba; (3) Bakti Luhur Vocational School – Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (4) Efata Vocational School - Omba Rade, Southwest Sumba; and (5) SMK Negeri 1 Waikabubak, West Sumba. The direct partners of this program are (1) the Office of Education & Culture of East Nusa Tenggara Province; (2) Southwest Sumba Regency Government; (3) West Sumba Regency Government; (4) Tourism Office of Southwest Sumba Regency; and (5) West Sumba Regency Tourism Office.
