Workshop on Management of Tourism Destinations and Urban Tourism Villages in Medan City, North Sumatra

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic (Kemenparekraf) collaborated with Commission X DPR RI to hold the event Workshop on Management of Tourism Destinations and Urban Tourism Villages in Medan City, North Sumatra on January 18 2024; located atHotel Santika Premiere Dyandra Hotel & Convention, Medan city, North Sumatra.

This workshop was attended by 80 participants. Also present to give a speech was Mrs. S. Utari Widyastuti, Director of Destination Development I, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, represented by Head of the Region I Team, Directorate of Destination Development I, Mr. Drs. Agus Suprihastono, MM; Mr. Sandiaga S. Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic (online); AndMr. Yuda P. Setiawan, S.STP, M.SP., Head of the Medan City Tourism Office, represented by the Head of the Tourism Destination Division. On this occasion, Mr. dr. Sofyan Tan, Chairman of the DPR RI Commission

Mrs. Wiwik Mahdayani, Founder & Executive Director of DESMA Center was a key resource person in the workshop. The presentation presented was related to urban village criteria, implementationCommunity Based Tourism (CBT) in ASEAN, ideal stages in developing tourism destinations, stages of urban village development andbest practice.

 

 

In this presentation, the management model for Kampoeng Heritage Kojoetangan, Malang - East Java, was also presented. This tourism destination has a heritage tourism concept; and the Betawi Cultural Village, Jakarta which also has a heritage tourism concept with the attraction of buildings with typical Betawi Cultural architects and traditional culinary delights.

Mrs. Wiwik explained other best practice concepts from her experience in tourism destinations in Southeast Asia including Hoi' An - Vietnam; which is a well-preserved Southeast Asian trading port, has attractive buildings that reflect a fusion of indigenous culture with Chinese, Japanese and European influences, culinary delights and community activities; and his other experiences at Amphawa Floating Market, Bangkok – Thailand; which is a popular Floating Market in Bangkok and is famous for its authentic culinary delights and seafood.
