Workshop III Youth Friendly Schools to Create Better Tourism Human Resources

DESMA Center held a workshop on youth-friendly schools from bullying, violence and harassment on February 07, 2025 at SMKN 2 Tambolaka City, Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara. The workshop was attended by 19 participants who are the Korwas SMA/SMK/SLB of Southwest Sumba Regency, the Head of SMKN 2 Tambolaka City, teachers, School Committee, and representatives of parents.
"This program is the first step towards positive change. We want to make this school a safe and comfortable place for all students," said Mrs. Kathrina Darra Manulangga, S.Pd., Principal of SMKN 2 Tambolaka City.
Mr. Ibrahim Boimau, S.Pd., M.Pd., Korwas SMA/SMK/SLB of Southwest Sumba Regency in his speech emphasized the urgency of creating youth-friendly schools as an effort to protect students from all forms of violence. He explained various real cases that have occurred in schools and their impact on students.
The first session was hosted by Mr. Adrianus Ubas, Program Officer Field Office Sumba DESMA Center with a discussion of cases of violence that they have encountered and solutions that can be done. The second session was hosted by Ms. Agustina Purnami Setiawi, Program Officer of DESMA Center's Sumba Field Office who discussed the types of bullying such as verbal, physical, psychological violence, cyberbullying, and its impact on students.
After the presentation of the material, participants conducted a role-playing simulation and identified the legal basis that supports the prevention of violence in schools. The aim was to provide an in-depth understanding of the role of each party in preventing and handling bullying cases.
This activity is DESMA Center's commitment to strengthen tourism human resources (HR) who have tolerance among others, superior and competitive to realize better tourism.

The Safe Leaning Program is part of the TVET Program for Sustainable Tourism Development in Sumba supported by MISEREOR/KZE and Kindermissionswerk (KMW); implemented by DESMA Center. The youth-friendly school program aims to prevent bullying, violence and harassment in the school environment; so that young people can appreciate differences between people and realize better tourism.
The program includes strengthening (1) the capacity of school management regarding the importance of youth protection in schools in line with Permendikburistek Number 46 of 2023 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Education Unit Environment (PPKSP); (2) the capacity of the Violence Prevention and Handling Team (TPPK) in schools to run actively and (3) the partnership of SMK Pariwisata, government, non-profit institutions, communities, and stakeholders.
The direct beneficiaries of this program are (1) SMK Pancasila - Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (2) SMK Negeri 2 Tambolaka City, Southwest Sumba; (3) SMK Bakti Luhur - Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba; (4) SMK Efata - Omba Rade, Southwest Sumba; and (5) SMK Negeri 1 Waikabubak, West Sumba. The direct partners of this program are (1) East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Education & Culture Office; (2) Southwest Sumba Regency Government; (3) West Sumba Regency Government; (4) Southwest Sumba Regency Tourism Office; and (5) West Sumba Regency Tourism Office.
