Kick Off Meeting - Towards Roadmap for Supporting Inclusive Business in Wellness Tourism in Indonesia

Indonesia is the second largest market for wellness tourism in Southeast Asia (after Thailand) with 1.3 million direct employees and USD 6.9 billion expenditure in 2017 and an annual growth rate of 21.5% from 2015-2017 (Global Wellness Institute, 2018). Due to that reason, Wellness Tourism chosen as the developing sector for inclusive business in Indonesia.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (ESCAP) together with the Government of Indonesia designed a roadmap to support inclusive businesses in Wellness Tourism in Indonesia. On the creation of the roadmap, there are 2 tourism consultant that was chosen; Endeva (as the International consultant) and DESMA Center (as the National Consultant).

This research started with Kick Off meeting that held on 24 October 2019. During the Kick Off Meeting, DESMA Center and Endeva explained the workplan for the creation of the Inclusive Business in Wellness Tourism roadmap, started from Inception Phase containing the research methodology preparation, and relevant stakeholders and potential IBs identification. The next step was Fact Finding taking place in Jakarta and Bali. On this phase, both of the consultants will have discussion and consultation to get inputs from the relevant governments departments, business associations, tourism businesses and academia on constraints and opportunities in the sector. 

Assessment on the Fact Finding phase did on 2 locations, Jakarta and Bali. Assessment was held on 26 October 2019 – 7 November 2019, and successfully collected inputs from 9 Jakarta stakeholders, and 15 Bali stakeholders
