DESMA Center Signs MoU and MoA with Islamic University of North Sumatra for Sustainable Tourism Development in Langkat Regency

DESMA Center signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Islamic University of North Sumatra (UISU) in the Multipurpose Room of the UISU Campus on Jl. Sisingamangaraja Medan on July 27, 2022. The signing of the MoU was carried out by UISU Rector Dr. H. Yanhar Jamaluddin, MAP with the Founder & Director of DESMA Center Wiwik Mahdayani. Followed by the signing of the MoA by the Head of the UISU Research Institute Prof. Nurhayati, MP with the North Sumatra Office Manager of DESMA Center Fitri Mahmudah.

 

On this occasion, the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Information Systems, Andang Suhendi, SS., MS, was present; Head of UISU Research Institute Prof. Nurhayati, MP and Secretary Jalillah Ilmiha, SE., M.Si; and Head of the Center for Transportation and Public Infrastructure Studies, Ir.Marwan Lubis, MT.

 

This signing is a synergy of tourism development in Langkat Regency and supports the human resources development and development program launched by the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra.

 

 

The follow-up implementation contained in the MoU of DESMA Center with UISU is cooperation in the context of the Tri Darma of Higher Education through human resource development, research and studies, tourism marketing and information technology, especially in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. For MoA, cooperation is carried out in carrying out designs to support the renovation and construction of CHSE supporting facilities to be built in the Batu Katak Ecotourism Area.

 

The signing of the cooperation was carried out in the context of implementation and concrete programs, development programs from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity, jointly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW through the Digitalization project for the Development and Marketing of Ecotourism and Strengthening the Capacity of Ecotourism Business Actors in Gunung Leuser National Park in Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

 

 

This project aims to support the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through Gunung Leuser National Park in facilitating sustainable tourism development as an effort to develop ecotourism products and services and promote ecotourism through the integrated digitization of tourism MSMEs in region III of Gunung Leuser National Park. The focus in this collaboration is strengthening the capacity of ecotourism actors in region III of Gunung Leuser National Park, especially assistance in the Batu Katak Ecotourism Area.

 

The Rector of UISU said that this collaboration can be carried out for various programs that can provide benefits to the community in the development of sustainable tourism in Langkat Regency. One of them jointly conducted an academic study to plan and explore the potential of various alternative tourist destinations in North Sumatra besides Lake Toba. Currently, UISU is also developing a Social Laboratory with several concrete projects that will be implemented, one of which is religious tourism in Besilam.
